Writing an abstract for a conference paper for the Nordic Association of American Studies (NAAS) biannual conference 2015 – the theme is “American Values” and I want to talk about this:

I want to talk about Saul Williams’ political stance from the Not in my Name EP and “Pledge of Resistance” and onwards; about American protest music and its use of “American Values” to protest against policies and politics; about afro-futurism and Williams’ Niggy Tardust persona’s relation to super heroes as both tied up with and criticizing the notion of super heroes (which again is tied up with… yes, you’ve guessed it: “American Values”). How I am going to fit this into a 20 minute paper is a whole other story…
