I have spent a lot of time at jazz concerts and festivals – both as a fan and as a scholar – thinking about what makes a live situation unique or special: When are we moved or brought to reflection? Is music purely an aesthetic object that we consume or is it a social act that we participate in?
Those thoughts are finally being translated into practice, as I have embarked on a small scale venture in concert production. Although my research has focused in jazz, I am not interested in genre as much as in format. In how to create situations that strengthen music as a social activity.
Since 2014 I have been producing concerts at springforbi.nu, testing out my ideas. I am right now in the process of developing a consultancy service to small cultural institutions/organisations who would like to employ music as a strategy to strengthen their identity and connection to their audiences.
